GUIDED TOUR ONBOARD THE ROYAL ALBATROSS
In her berth at the calm waters of the channel between Sentosa island and mainland Singapore is the Royal Albatross; a traditional tall ship transformed into a luxury superyacht. Now in partnership with Sentosa, it is being opened up to tours aboard the vessel.
Beginning her journey from Chicago as Windy II, her crew undertook a monumental task of transforming the vessel and recreating her into a harmonious marriage between the traditional golden age of sailing and the modern technological advances.
In the midst of this makeover is the work of master rigger, Jim Barry, best known for his riggings on the ships in the Pirates of the Caribbean. Over 200 ropes have a special place on their pin rail around the deck, each with its particular purpose. An example would be to power a sail.
Being one of the 150 tall ships left in the world, the Royal Albatross has the sole distinction of being made for opulence and enjoyment. Its three decks feature a salon, cabins, bars, and a galley. With a state-of-the-art audio system and 60,000 over mood lightings to boot, the superyacht makes for an elegant and unique venue to host guests and clients for private and corporate events and weddings.
Upon entering the Main Deck, guests will be able to catch a glimpse of the restaurant-grade galley with stone hearth ovens for pizzas, and move onto the Grand Salon, fully air-conditioned and with its accompanying bar.
The Lower Deck is where the cabins are, each with an adjoining toilet. The biggest of them is the Owner’s Cabin, reserved for VIP guests and wedding couples.
Visitors for the guided tour will be able to have some time at the Instaworthy spot at the Flying Seat, taking great pictures to document their trip to Sentosa. Across the Upper Deck, where the Flying Seat is, also holds the Monkey Bar, a well-stocked premium bar, and the Helm Station, where the captain navigates the ship across the waters.
With a rich history within itself, the Royal Albatross will prove to have something of interest for everyone, whether it is for the shutterbugs, the alcohol enthusiast, or the sailing hobbyists and travellers alike.
