Royal Albatross's history...
Originally named Windy II, this beautiful Tall Ship was designed and built by Southern Windjammer Ltd., and Detyens Shipyard Inc., both of Charleston SC, USA. Her maiden voyage was in May 2001 when she sailed from Charleston, along the Eastern seaboard and through the Great Lakes to her new home in the "Windy City" Chicago, operating from the world famous Navy Pier during the warmer months.
For six years Windy II sailed the Great Lakes, participated in numerous Tall Ship Festivals from Cleveland to Sault Ste Marie to Chicago and two Tall Ship races where she was placed 2nd and 3rd. Since then Windy II has had a new folding prop fitted however we will never know now if she could have won this prestigious race. In February 2008, Windy II left Chicago for her new home in Singapore, 9,372 miles away. Renamed Royal Albatross in April 2009, she is currently undergoing extensive modifications in Malaysia which are expected to be complete some time in 2010.
